About
- Musical Laboratory* is an exclusive brand, which creates components featuring our proprietary less-is-more Ultra-Fi electronics. Another unique feature of our designs is that we generally fit the enclosure to the circuit, eschewing any preconceived notions of how a component ’should’ look.
- With our Korean Lacquer range, function and form are blended into a piece of furniture that satisfies both the visual and aural senses simultanously. Here we created components, which not only harmonize or enhance our customers listening spaces with their Buddhist vibe, but can also play music in the highest class of musical performance currently available.

Musical Laboratory* was conceived by its founder, Malcolm Hyde, and has its origins in the on-line and London underground audio communities, with influences from new generation audio designers Thorsten Loesch and Allen Wright. Other influences include minimalist implementations from the likes of Christopher Own and, of course, Junji Kimura – creator of the original Gaincard. These influences and our own experiences led to a growing disillusionment with much current commercial high-end audio, which to our ears renders an approximation of music that is lifeless and often fatiguing to listen to.
- Musical Laboratory* - with your support - will continue to create simplistic audio devices, which are able to capture and reproduce the spirit and magic of a musical performance, for your listening pleasure.
